Strange And Not So Strange Things (2024)

Me: All instruments and vocals

This is not my first or most recent album, but I thought it would be a good place to start. The first 6 songs were recorded in my closet studio in Fullerton, CA while I was going to art school there and playing in The Earthlings. In the Earthlings I just showed up and played guitar. I didn’t have to learn any songs because we improvised almost everything. That was good, and that was how I liked it, but up to this point I had never really seriously attempted to write my own songs. So these first six songs were my debut as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and recording engineer.

The next three songs were just some random stuff I had lying around. At this point my brother and I formed Crispin’s Lover, and I was full time singer and songwriter, and my brother played the drums. The four Crispin’s Lover songs that I included, The Antikythera Mechanism, Karen Carpenter’s Drum Attic, Avarice In Wonderland, and Charlemagne Esteem were songs that never got fully released or were rerecorded by Blood Drive later, but are basically just my brother and myself and are versions that deserve to be heard. On these recordings I sing and play guitar, bass, and synth. Karen Carpenter’s Drum Attic might still have Mike’s original bass on it but most of the tracks I had to re-record after we left on bad terms and I knew I could improve them anyhow. All this stuff was recorded between 2007 through 2013.

In 2014 Winter, Carl, Mark and I formed Blood Drive. Shortly after that Mark left and Devlin joined on drums. Around 2021 Mark came back on drums and Devlin moved over to guitar and I switched to Synthesizers. That kept me pretty busy from 2014 to 2022. After 8 and a half great years Blood Drive called it quits when our studio was demolished and turned into a high rise bio tech building. Around this time I moved in with my cousins in Medford, MA and set up a little studio in my bedroom. There I recorded the last seven songs on this compilation in 2022.

At the beginning of 2023 I moved from Boston to Seattle and took a little break from music. It wasn’t that long of a break I suppose because in 2024 I recorded 5 new songs and released them as The Immaculate Erection, which I will add to this section soon. But for now here is Strange And Not So Strange Things complete with lyrics linked in below. Hopefully there is something you enjoy in there.

Tie Game, You Lose (2007)

Me: Tape Loops, Guitar, Samples and rudimentary text to speech emulator

Tie Game, You Lose was more of an audio experiment than a proper musical album. Although is was the first album I released as a solo project it is pretty non-commercial as it is mostly samples and loops put together in a somewhat cohesive but far from pop style with different speed robot voices at different volumes intertwining and overlapping each other. This continues on for over an hour. It might not be the recommended point of entry for my solo music but if you like different and trancey with texture and interesting lyrics you might give it a try. Otherwise for more mainstream musical efforts wait for Strange And Not So Strange Things (2024) which will added next late August 2025.

Immaculate Erection (2025)

Me: Guitar, Synth, Vocals.

Immaculate Erection is my most recent recorded music besides some video game music. It includes 6 songs that were written and recorded in 2023 and five that were done in 2025. The 2023 stuff is guitar, drum sequences and mostly soft synths, whereas the stuff recorded in 2025 made more use of samples tweaked in my Akai Mk2 Sampler/Sequencer.
